WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Citizens For Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) announced that Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) has joined the House Clean Energy and Innovation Working Group. The group, which was formed in 2016 by House Republicans, seeks to harness the power of the free market to bring clean energy technologies to market that stimulate domestic job creation, bolster the economy, and preserve the quality of our nation’s pristine lands, waters and air.
“The people of Eastern Washington rely on the clean, reliable, and affordable energy created on our hydropower system. That’s why I’m committed to promoting and encouraging more responsible energy production for families across Washington’s Fifth Congressional District. I look forward to working with the House Clean Energy and Innovation Working Group to increase support for commonsense policies that will advance our energy potential, create jobs, and grow our economy for generations to come,” said Rep. McMorris Rodgers.
“Citizens For Responsible Energy Solutions applauds Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers for becoming the newest addition to the House Clean Energy and Innovation Working Group,” said CRES Managing Director Heather Reams. “Thanks to Rep. McMorris Rodgers’ steadfast leadership and encouragement of our nation’s hydropower sector, families in Eastern Washington and across America can access safe, reliable and affordable energy. CRES looks forward to continuing our work with members of the House Working Group to build consensus among a geographically diverse set of pragmatic Republicans to strengthen national security, bolster the economy, and preserve our natural resources.”
Rep. McMorris Rodgers joins fourteen other Republicans from across America, including Reps. Mark Amodei (NV-02), Barbara Comstock (VA-10), Ryan Costello (PA-06), Carlos Curbelo (FL-26), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-08), Chuck Fleischmann (TN-03), Garret Graves (LA-06), Adam Kinzinger (IL-16), Pat Meehan (PA-07), Tom Reed (NY-23), Dave Reichert (WA-08), Elise Stefanik (NY-21), Kevin Yoder (KS-03), Rep. Ted Yoho (FL-03) in seeking to build consensus in support of responsible clean energy solutions in Congress.
Recently named a 2017 CRES Clean Energy Champion, Rep. McMorris Rodgers introduced the Hydropower Policy Modernization Act of 2017 in June. The bill, which the House approved last week, would give the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission the flexibility and authority to extend permit periods, update the definition of renewable energy to include hydropower and require improvements to the licensing process that will shorten the permitting timeline.
Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization founded in 2013 to engage Republican policymakers and the public about commonsense, conservative solutions to address our nation’s need for abundant, reliable energy while preserving our environment.
