Kelly Ayotte Joins Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions

Former U.S. Senator & New Hampshire Attorney General to advise right-of-center clean energy organization

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) announced that former U.S. Senator and New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly Ayotte will serve as the right-of-center organization’s Senior Advisor.

“Since my time as Attorney General, I’ve worked across the aisle to conserve and protect our clean air and water while pursuing commonsense policies to meet our energy needs,” said Senator Kelly Ayotte. “I’m honored to join Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions as Senior Advisor and look forward to continuing our work together to support clean energy policies that make sense for New Hampshire and for citizens across the country.”

“As Republicans, Senator Ayotte and the Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions team understand that our party has a real opportunity to reframe and lead the energy and environmental debate in our country,” said CRES Board Chairman James Dozier. “The polling is clear – voters want to see solutions and will reward candidates who support clean energy policies that will positively address both our economic and climate challenges. We need more Republicans at the table, and I am honored to have Senator Ayotte’s counsel in this important work.”

Senator Ayotte was elected to the Senate in 2010, where she was ranked as one of the most bipartisan senators working across party lines to find solutions to our nation’s biggest challenges. During her tenure in the Senate, Ayotte chaired the Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness and the Commerce Subcommittee on Aviation Operations. She also served on the Senate Armed Services, Budget, Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and Aging Committees.

Senator Ayotte’s clean energy record includes:

  • Senator Ayotte introduced an amendment to the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, legislation that calls for the United States to be a world leader in reducing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.
  • Senator Ayotte joined with Republican colleagues to form the Energy and Environmental Working Group to enact commonsense energy reforms that strengthen the economy, achieve cleaner energy production, and ensure a clean air legacy.
  • Senator Ayotte became the first Republican to support the Clean Power Plan, which aims to address climate change through clean energy solutions, and has been a leader in the successful fight to reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) through 2018.
