Former Congressman Has Proven Record in Support of Environmental Sustainability

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Managing Director Heather Reams released the following statement following the U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Representative Ryan Zinke to serve as Secretary of the Interior.

“In his joint address to Congress, President Trump mentioned the importance of securing a legacy of clean air and clean water for this and future generations. Secretary Ryan Zinke possesses a proven track record of accomplishment to make this conservative principle a reality at the Department of the Interior,” Reams said.

“Secretary Zinke represents the most recent high-profile nominee in the Trump administration that has a clear history of supporting commonsense, clean energy solutions to create jobs and spur renewable energy development by the free market. As Montana’s lone voice in the U.S. House of Representatives and a member of the House Energy, Innovation and Environmental Working Group, Zinke proudly supported public lands and national parks, and voted to reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund to preserve our nation’s beauty and conserve our bounty. He also promoted the research and development of innovative technologies to spur energy production and job creation. CRES looks forward to working with Zinke as Interior Secretary to ensure the continued implementation of renewable energy policy such as wind, solar, nuclear, natural gas, biomass and hydropower to address our climate challenges, strengthen our national security, and preserve the quality of our air and water.”

Ryan Zinke’s Confirmation Hearing Statements on Clean Energy Solutions

  • “We’re not going to be able to cut our way out of the problems we have, nor are we going to be able to tax our way out…The only hope we have of America is to grow our way out. And we can. Energy is part of it, innovation is part of it. We’re going to need an economy that grows, we can compete, we can dominate. God has given us so much.”
  • “We’re venting a lot, and we’re wasting energy, and that is troubling me…The amount of venting in North Dakota alone almost exceeds what we get out of the fields. Let us build a system that recaptures what is being wasted. And that’s an enormous opportunity geopolitically as well.”
