CRES Forum Statement on President Trump’s Decision to Withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement

June 1, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions Forum (CRES Forum) released the following statement regarding the Trump Administration’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

“Americans win when our policymakers balance economics, national security and the environment. That’s why the decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement instead of renegotiating is highly disappointing. The United States has historically led international discussions around energy development, security, and the environment. Leaving this international agreement hinders the U.S.’s ability to advance our national interests in this highly-visible national forum,” said CRES Forum Director of Policy and Advocacy Charles Hernick.

“While we supported a renegotiation of the agreement, the fact still remains that it is imperative we prioritize domestic clean energy production.  Solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, natural gas and geothermal power are proven drivers of economic growth and job creation, and have made tremendous progress in diversifying the nation’s energy system. CRES Forum will continue to engage the Trump Administration, members of Congress, and governors across the country to prioritize clean energy policies as part of an all-of-the-above energy approach.  We also thank the many policymakers and industry leaders who made compelling cases to remain in the Paris Agreement.”
