CRES Commends Stefanik, Curbelo, and Costello for Introducing Climate Resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This morning, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Managing Director Heather Reams released the following statement on the introduction of today’s climate change resolution led by Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (NY-21), Congressman Carlos Curbelo (FL-26), and Congressman Ryan Costello (PA-06).

“Addressing climate change through clean energy solutions is smart policy and smart politics. Time and again, CRES polling shows that voters overwhelmingly support lawmakers who prioritize clean energy to advance the economy, create good paying jobs, promote energy independence, and protect the environment,” Reams said.

“With the introduction of today’s climate resolution, Rep. Stefanik, Rep. Curbelo, and Rep. Costello solidify their roles among a new generation of conservative leaders defined by their environmental stewardship and dedication toward pursuing innovative forms of renewable energy technology. We commend their leadership and encourage other Republican members of Congress to join the 14 other Republican co-sponsors of this House Resolution in supporting clean energy solutions.”

National survey research spearheaded by Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) in 2016, found notable trends in public support for clean energy solutions. The polling showed:

  • Most voters, including about half (48%) of Republicans and more than two-thirds (67%) of independents, believe the climate is changing and the federal government should step in to cut greenhouse gases.
  • Also, more than eight-in ten (86%) of American voters between the ages 18 and 29 are more likely to vote for a candidate who backs clean energy.
  • Three-quarters (75%) of survey respondents also said they would be more likely to support a candidate for public office who supports a clean energy plan that promotes the diversification and growth of renewable energy sources, like wind, solar and hydropower.
