CRES Applauds Murkowski for Passage of Energy Policy Modernization Act

Senate Legislation Advances Clean And Renewable Energy

WASHINGTON – This morning, James Dozier, Executive Director of Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions, applauded U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) for her work that lead to passage of the the Energy Policy Modernization Act in the U.S. Senate..

The legislation, which received overwhelming bipartisan support in an 85-12 on the Senate floor, includes provisions that increase funding levels for investment and research of clean, renewable energy technology including solar and wind, hydropower and geothermal energy.

“The Senate’s overwhelmingly bipartisan approval of the Energy Policy Modernization Act is a major victory for clean energy technology that offers much needed investment in America’s outdated energy infrastructure. Most notably, provisions dedicated to solar, hydropower and wind energy expansion will strengthen our national security, domestic job creation and manufacturing, and energy competitiveness on the world stage. I applaud Senator Murkowski for setting politics aside to achieve broad bipartisan consensus on energy policies that will protect clean air and water for future generations,” James Dozier said.

Below include aspects regarding renewable energy in the bill:

Hydroelectric – The bill streamlines the permitting and dispute process for all hydroelectric proposals and extends incentives for all hydroelectric projects into 2025.

Geothermal – The bill encourages the Secretary of Interior to “significantly increase” geothermal production from federal lands and look for other opportunities on federal lands and authorizes additional research on newer geothermal technology.

Wind – The bill directs the Secretary of the Interior to establish “priority areas” where wind energy can be harvested and further encourages use of wind energy throughout infrastructure projects.
