Statement: Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions Statement on Passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act

December 20, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, following a highly targeted digital ad campaign focused on influencing conferees, legislative staff and key influencers on tax reform, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) released the following statement regarding the passage of H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

“Comprehensive tax reform is long overdue, and Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions congratulates Speaker Ryan, Leader McConnell and Republican members of the House Ways and Means Committee, Senate Finance Committee, and conference committee for taking the next step forward in providing Americans with tax relief and a stronger economy. We also applaud the leadership and commitment shown by conservative members in Congress to preserve the economic opportunity and potential associated with clean energy in the 21st Century,” said CRES Managing Director Heather Reams.

“Specifically, CRES is pleased with the reduction in the corporate tax rate and the allowance for 100 percent expensing that will drive investment and innovation in the clean energy sector. However, Congress missed an opportunity to advance clean energy technologies when renewable energy tax credits for emerging sub-sectors were dropped in the final agreement. Therefore, CRES encourages members of the House and Senate to consider additional tax legislation that would include renewable energy tax credits that were eliminated from the conference report. We look forward to continuing our work with members of the House and Senate to increase support of policies that encourage long-term growth and continued success of the clean energy industry.”

Earlier this month, CRES launched a five-figure digital ad campaign on Facebook and Twitter in Washington, D.C. focused on influencing conferees, legislative staff and key influencers on tax reform. The ad buy pointed audiences on Capitol Hill to the following letter on CRES’ website that was circulated to congressional leaders and conferees.
