Dear Speaker Ryan and Leader Pelosi:
On behalf of Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES), I am writing in support of S.97, the Nuclear Energy Innovation Capabilities Act (NEICA) of 2017. CRES urges the House to pass a final version of this bipartisan, bicameral legislation this fall.
NEICA supports federal research, development, demonstration, and commercial application of advanced nuclear technologies and directs the Department of Energy to prioritize partnering with private innovators to test and demonstrate advanced nuclear reactor concepts. This legislation helps modernize U.S. nuclear policy and would create opportunities for public-private partnerships by allowing private companies to construct and operate privately-funded reactor prototypes at DOE sites. Finally, this legislation will facilitate the commercialization of innovations in nuclear energy.
We encourage Congress to pass this legislation as soon as possible. Sincerely,
Heather Reams
