CRESponsible Leader: Rep. Pete Stauber

This June, we recognize Rep. Pete Stauber (R-Minn.) as our CRESponsible Leader of the Month.

Representing Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District, Rep. Stauber is a proven champion for American energy and mineral dominance, domestic manufacturing and the economic strength of northern Minnesota. As Chairman of the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources, he has spent his career fighting to put America’s vast natural resources to work, a critical necessity to ensure American national security, supply chains and energy future.

Rep. Stauber’s district is home to some of the most strategically important mineral deposits in the world. With minerals like copper, nickel and cobalt, this area is filled with materials that are essential to advanced defense systems, clean energy technologies and domestic manufacturing. Rep. Stauber has made it his mission to ensure these resources are developed responsibly and put to work for American workers and American competitiveness.

In the 119th Congress, Rep. Stauber has delivered two landmark wins for American mineral security. His Critical Mineral Dominance Act (H.R. 4090), which passed the House in February 2026, directs the Department of the Interior to assess the economic costs of America’s reliance on imported minerals, identify priority mining projects on federal lands for expedited approval and take steps to accelerate domestic production. With China controlling roughly 60% of global critical mineral production and over 85% of global processing, reducing that dependence is imperative to ensuring economic prosperity and national security. Rep. Stauber also secured President Trump’s signature on H.J. Res. 140 in April 2026, overturning a Biden-era mining ban on nearly 225,000 acres in the Superior National Forest and clearing the path for proposed mining projects to move forward through the proper state and federal review process, opening a new chapter for Minnesota’s Iron Range.

Beyond his work on critical minerals, Rep. Stauber has been a consistent voice for streamlining the permitting process that governs energy and mineral development. As Subcommittee Chairman, he has led hearings focused on cutting bureaucratic delays, providing certainty for domestic producers and unlocking new production opportunities across the country. His subcommittee has examined legislation to streamline oil and gas permitting, co-locate renewable energy projects on existing federal leases and expand geothermal energy development — reflecting a genuine commitment to an all-of-the-above energy strategy that keeps American production moving forward.

Through his leadership on critical minerals, permitting reform and domestic energy production, Rep. Stauber is not only advancing national priorities; he is securing America’s supply chains, creating good-paying jobs for Minnesota workers and positioning the United States to lead in the 21st century economy.

We are proud to name Rep. Stauber as our CRESponsible Leader of the Month for June!
