Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions Supports ARPA-E Reauthorization Act

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) released the following statement supporting H.R. 3681, the ARPA-E Reauthorization Act of 2017. The bipartisan bill authorizes growth in funding for ARPA-E through 2022 and includes a provision to ensure that business information collected by ARPA-E remains confidential, enabling stronger private sector engagement in its programs.

“Creativity and ingenuity are at the heart of America, but our ability to innovate will remain at risk if we scale back investments in key research initiatives that are proven to promote clean energy technology, grow the economy, and strengthen our national security,” said CRES Managing Director Heather Reams. “Federal investments in cutting-edge research have made significant progress in the effort to advance clean energy sources that are safe, abundant, and sustainable. That’s why it is critical that our leaders in Congress take steps to maintain and expand funding for the Department of Energy’s ARPA-E advanced energy R&D agency.”

Leaders of the House bill, including CRES Clean Energy Champions Reps. Ryan Costello (PA-06) and Mia Love (UT-04), recently sent a Dear Colleague letter touting their plans for reauthorization. The Energy Sciences Coalition, comprised of 48 universities, 28 scientific and professional associations, and 8 private companies, signed a statement in support of H.R. 3681. The letter is supported by CRES and other leading energy research and national advocacy organizations:
