WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) formally announced its slate of gubernatorial candidates who have earned the organization’s endorsement in 2018.

“America’s Governors are leading the way when it comes to commonsense clean energy policies that are creating real economic opportunity, strengthening our national security, and preserving our climate. Our country faces big challenges and it’s critical that candidates address them openly and with concrete solutions during the midterm elections. Today, CRES is endorsing a strong slate of Republican gubernatorial candidates who have proven records of leadership and support for advancing the free market, clean energy policies that Americans want and our economy demands,” said CRES Executive Director James Dozier.

2018 Endorsed Candidates

U.S. Governors

  • Governor Charlie Baker (MA)
  • Mike DeWine (OH)
  • Governor Doug Ducey (AZ)
  • Governor Larry Hogan (MD)
  • Governor Phil Scott (VT)

“Ohio is blessed with abundant natural resources that are critical to powering our state into the future, whether it is wind off of Lake Erie and our northwestern plains, natural gas in our Appalachian foothills, or the waters of Lake Erie and the Ohio River that are critical to cooling our state’s nuclear reactors. These resources are essential to building a robust energy grid that utilizes all energy generation sources. As an avid outdoorsman and fisherman, I know how important it is to preserve our forests, waterways, and Great Lakes for future generations, and I fought hard to protect all of Ohio’s precious natural lands as Ohio’s Attorney General. I will continue this mission as Ohio’s Governor, while ensuring that Ohio adopts an all-of-the-above energy strategy and remains open for business by maintaining some of the most competitive energy costs in the nation. I am grateful to receive Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions’ endorsement,” said Mike DeWine.

“Since taking office, our administration has worked in a bipartisan manner to promote commonsense clean energy policies and initiatives. We are committed to continuing our efforts to grow clean energy investment and jobs, leading the nation when it comes to protecting and preserving our environment, including our most precious asset, the Chesapeake Bay. Thank you for this honor. I am grateful that Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions has recognized the work we have done and plan to do, and I am proud to receive their endorsement,” said Governor Larry Hogan.

“Vermont is seeing increased demand for clean energy, and my Administration has been committed to rapidly expanding our production of clean, abundant and reliable clean energy to meet our growing needs from consumers and businesses. We are focused on replacing high-cost, high-carbon peak production with affordable renewable sources, and promoting energy efficiency across the state. Clean Energy is creating jobs, with 1 in 17 Vermont workers now employed in this sector, I will continue to support the clean energy industry. I am grateful that Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions has recognized the work we have done and plan to do, and I am proud to receive their endorsement,” said Governor Phil Scott.

Today’s endorsements come on the heels of previous rounds of CRES endorsements this year which included: Gov. Henry McMaster and Gov. Mitt Romney (UT Senate), Reps.
