CRES Statement on White House Trillion Trees Executive Order

Statement from Heather Reams, Executive Director, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions, on the White House Trillion Trees Executive Order.

“There’s a reason that Trillion Trees as a policy initiative has taken root on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue. It’s a meaningful, commonsense approach to mitigating climate change that Republicans and Democrats alike can support. CRES applauds President Trump and all of the lawmakers on Capitol Hill who continue to work on resourceful policies to neutralize carbon emissions.

What’s powerful about this initiative is that it invites all Americans to participate. Planting trees in our communities is a lasting symbol and reminder of our commitment to growing new solutions to our most pressing climate challenges.

Conservatives have long valued the importance of managing our forests and other natural resources in sustainable ways in order to make our environment and our nation stronger for generations to come. But we recognize that doing so does not have to come at the expense of our economic growth. Trillion Trees joins a long and growing list of legislation and policies that address climate change in actionable and bipartisan ways, including helping farmers, ranchers, and landowners embrace sustainable farming practices and participate in voluntary carbon markets; incentivizing the next generation of nuclear, hydropower, wind, solar and geothermal generation; advancing state-of-the-art grid scale energy storage systems; and, introducing tax credits to promote domestic production of clean energy, create clean energy jobs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
