“Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions applauds Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) for their bipartisan leadership in advancing commonsense, fiscally conservative offshore wind energy legislation. Offshore wind is a promising part of the clean energy industry with more than 22 Gigawatts in the development queue. However, unlike other forms of energy where royalties are shared with adjacent states, existing law requires all earned revenues to be returned to the U.S. Treasury. This bill would level the playing field and allow states near these offshore wind farms to participate in the revenue sharing, allowing them to invest in programs like coastal restoration efforts or other infrastructure investments. CRES urges the Senate to pass this legislation, which will create tens of thousands of jobs and lead to more clean energy coming onto the grid.”
