CRES Statement on the Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) Rule

JUNE 19, 2019, WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) rule, which replaces the Clean Power Plan (CPP). Below is a statement from Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Director of Policy and Advocacy Charles Hernick, noting the ACE rule.

“The Affordable Clean Energy rule closes the chapter on the Clean Power Plan, offering more certainty for the future of coal-fired power plants. We acknowledge that this is not comprehensive climate policy. For that, we believe we should look to Congress to use this new rule as a starting point to debate legislation aimed at continuing to reduce carbon emissions, building on ideas such as Representative Matt Gaetz’ Green Real Deal,” said Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Director of Policy and Advocacy Charles Hernick. “We also believe that ACE in its current form misses an opportunity to offer more flexibility to states as well as incorporating carbon capture as a means to further reduce emissions. CRES stands ready to work with congressional leaders and the Administration to achieve those goals and move towards an energy transition with more inclusive clean energy solutions, for the good of our economy and future generations.”
