CRES Responds to House Passage of Debt Ceiling Package

WASHINGTON—Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) President Heather Reams released the following statement after House passage of the debt ceiling package:

“CRES recognizes the Limit, Save, Grow Act is a Republican starting point to negotiate with an unwilling White House on the debt limit. From CRES’ inception, we have worked with Congress to pass commonsense, durable solutions that reduce emissions.

“CRES did not support the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) despite our support for historically bipartisan policies that benefit American clean energy innovation—including carbon capture, hydrogen, solar, wind, nuclear, and more. We are disappointed some of these provisions were included in the legislation passed by the House tonight.

“As the conversation continues about how to resolve the out-of-control national debt, CRES will work to ensure that clean, affordable, and reliable energy remains a national priority. We strongly urge Republicans in both the House and the Senate to champion all-of-the-above energy—as they have in the past—to create American jobs, lower energy costs for families across the country, bolster our energy security, and strengthen the United States’ role as a leader in global emissions reduction.”
