CRES Celebrates Final Passage of Nuclear Energy Bill

WASHINGTON – Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) today applauded the final passage of the Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy (ADVANCE) Act. This major, bipartisan legislation to streamline the licensing, regulation and deployment of nuclear energy technologies in the United States contains provisions from Sen. Shelley Moore Capito’s ADVANCE Act and Rep. Jeff Duncan’s (R-S.C.) Atomic Energy Advancement Act, which CRES endorsed.

“Today marks an incredible milestone for American nuclear energy,” said Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) President Heather Reams. “The Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy (ADVANCE) Act will empower the United States to lead the next nuclear resurgence, paving the way for advanced energy technologies that can be used here at home and exported abroad. Thank you, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.) and Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.), for leading this bipartisan charge to shepherd in the next generation of American nuclear development.”

Attached to S. 870, the Fire Grants and Safety Act, the ADVANCE Act cleared the U.S. House of Representatives by a 393-13 vote. The U.S. Senate passed the legislation 88-2, sending it to President Biden’s desk to become law.

CRES has long been a vocal proponent of Sen. Capito and Rep. Duncan’s pieces of nuclear legislation. In March, Rep. Duncan and CRES President Heather Reams teamed up to pen an op-ed on the House passage of the Atomic Energy Advancement Act. To kick off the year, Reams joined Miss America 2023 Grace Stanke in writing another op-ed advocating for legislation to advance nuclear technology including those led by Sen. Capito and Rep. Duncan.
