CRES Applauds Senate Panel For Passing Clean Energy-Friendly Surface Transportation Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Executive Director Heather Reams released the following statement after the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works approved a sweeping surface transportation bill that includes provisions to reduce carbon emissions, support carbon capture, utilization and sequestration research, and establish new grant programs to protect infrastructure from natural disasters.

“Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions applauds the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee for reporting out this historic surface transportation reauthorization bill, which includes, for the first time, a title focused on climate change, and codifies President Trump’s efforts to streamline the permitting process,” said Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Executive Director Heather Reams. “The bipartisan America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act reduces carbon emissions in the transportation sector by offering incentives for states that lower per capita emissions and builds additional infrastructure for electric vehicles. It provides additional support for efforts to improve resiliency in the face of sea level rise, extreme weather events and other natural disasters. We are also pleased that the CRES-backed Utilizing Significant Emissions with Innovative Technologies (USE IT) Act, which will support carbon capture research and development, was included in this bill. We commend Chairman John Barrasso and Ranking Member Tom Carper on their stewardship of this bill. We urge the full United States Senate to take swift action on the America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act.”

CRES was an early supporter of the Utilizing Significant Emissions with Innovative Technologies (USE IT) Act, legislation incorporated into the larger bill reported out of the Senate panel today.
