CRES Applauds Senate EPW Committee Advancement of PROVE IT Act

“The PROVE IT Act will prove what we already know to be true: American-produced goods result in lower emissions than our economic competitors.”
— CRES President Heather Reams

WASHINGTON – Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) President Heather Reams applauded the advancement of S. 1863, the Providing Reliable, Objective, Verifiable Emissions Intensity and Transparency (PROVE IT), out of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

“The PROVE IT Act will prove what we already know to be true: American-produced goods result in lower emissions than our economic competitors,” said CRES President Heather Reams. “CRES congratulates Senators Cramer (R-N.D.), Graham (R-S.C.) and Boozman (R-Ark.) for clearing this legislative hurdle and putting the PROVE IT Act one step closer to arming American lawmakers and industries with the facts to reward—not punish—the United States’ widely recognized carbon advantage and leadership in emissions reduction.”

The PROVE IT Act, introduced by U.S. Senators Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) and Chris Coons (D-Del.), directs the U.S. Department of Energy to conduct a study comparing the emissions intensity of U.S. and foreign production, including that from U.S. adversaries like China and Russia. It would provide the U.S. its own math in defending against foreign trade policies that unfairly disadvantage U.S. exports.
