CRES Applauds Republican Support for Energy Incentives That Spur American Investment, Innovation

WASHINGTON – Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) applauds a letter led by Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.) addressed to U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) underscoring House Republican support for continuing clean energy tax incentives that support an all-of-the-above American energy strategy and are creating good-paying jobs across the country.

“Advancing innovation, fully utilizing American resources and building out a domestic supply chain are vital to any meaningful American energy strategy that ensures energy security and affordability,” said CRES President Heather Reams. “Targeted tax credits play an important role in leveraging clean energy investment necessary to deploy infrastructure, expand economic growth and create jobs, especially in red districts. Ensuring their durability is the smart thing to do for our economy and energy security. Thank you, Rep. Garbarino (R-N.Y.), for leading this important charge to defend policies that advance an all-of-the-above energy strategy, maintain business and market certainty, and ensure American taxpayer money is not wasted.”

The letter highlights clean energy tax credits, which have historically enjoyed bipartisan support, and emphasizes the risk to local communities and economies if they were eliminated.

“Today, many U.S. companies are already using sector-wide energy tax credits – many of which have enjoyed bipartisan support historically – to make major investments in new U.S. energy infrastructure,” wrote the lawmakers. “We hear from industry and our constituents who fear the energy tax regime will once again be turned on its head due to Republican repeal efforts. Prematurely repealing energy tax credits, particularly those which were used to justify investments that already broke ground, would undermine private investments and stop development that is already ongoing. A full repeal would create a worst-case scenario where we would have spent billions of taxpayer dollars and received next to nothing in return.”

Rep. Garbarino was joined in signing the letter by Reps. David Valadao (R-Calif.), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore.), Marc Molinaro (R-N.Y.), Erin Houchin (R-Ind.), Anthony D’Esposito (R-N.Y.), Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), Jen Kiggans (R-Va.), Nick LaLota (R-N.Y.), Young Kim (R-Calif.), John Curtis (R-Utah), Don Bacon (R-Neb.), Thomas Kean (R-N.J.), David Joyce (R-Ohio), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa), Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.), Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) and Mark Amodei (R-Nev.).
