SEPTEMBER 24, 2019 — Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) formally announced U.S. Senator John Cornyn as a 2019 Clean Energy Champion. Sen. Cornyn will be recognized at the CRES Clean Energy Champion Awards Reception to be held during National Clean Energy Week (September 23-27, 2019).

“CRES is proud to announce Senator John Cornyn as a 2019 Clean Energy Champion. As a member of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee’s Energy, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure Subcommittee, Senator Cornyn has made an indelible mark in advancing renewable sources of energy, including wind, solar, and biomass,” said CRES Executive Director Heather Reams. “We applaud Senator Cornyn for his work on behalf of the Lone Star State and look forward to continuing our work with him in the years to come.”

CRES 2019 Clean Energy Champions are Republicans recognized for their steadfast leadership in advancing commonsense clean energy solutions that address our nation’s need for abundant, reliable energy while preserving our environment.

Examples of U.S. Senator John Cornyn’s clean energy record include:

  • Introduced the Launching Energy Advancement and Development through Innovations for Natural Gas (LEADING) Act, S. 1685, which would incentivize research and development of carbon capture technology for natural gas to ensure a reliable, affordable, and environmentally sound energy supply. The legislation was reported by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in July 2019.
  • Introduced the Pipeline and LNG Facility Cybersecurity Preparedness Act, S.300, legislation that would direct the Secretary of Energy to implement a program that helps ensure the physical security and cybersecurity of our oil and natural gas pipelines.
