CRES Announces U.S. Senator Cory Gardner as 2019 Clean Energy Champion

SEPTEMBER 24, 2019 — Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) formally announced U.S. Senator Cory Gardner as a 2019 Clean Energy Champion. Sen. Gardner will be recognized at the CRES Clean Energy Champion Awards Reception to be held during National Clean Energy Week (September 23-27, 2019).

“CRES is proud to announce Senator Cory Gardner as a 2019 Clean Energy Champion. As a member of the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Senator Gardner has helped pass into law critical measures that support, and invest in, renewable energy sources,” said CRES Executive Director Heather Reams. “Additionally, Senator Gardner has worked to protect our nation’s energy grid and address energy storage issues. We applaud Senator Gardner for his work on behalf of the Centennial State and look forward to continuing our work with him in the years to come.”

“As a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, with jurisdiction over energy generation and the bulk power grid, it’s an honor to be selected to receive the Clean Energy Champion Award from Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions,” said Senator Gardner. “By focusing on responsible energy development, energy reliability and affordability, and the environment, we have the potential to make a better life for all Americans and our nation more secure.”

CRES 2019 Clean Energy Champions are Republicans recognized for their steadfast leadership in advancing commonsense clean energy solutions that address our nation’s need for abundant, reliable energy while preserving our environment.

Examples of U.S. Senator Cory Gardner’s clean energy record include:

  • Helped establish and co-chairs the Roosevelt Conservation Caucus, a bicameral group focused on addressing environmental problems through market-based solutions.
  • Introduced S.607, The Timely Review of Infrastructure Act, legislation aimed at reducing the long wait times for federal approval of energy infrastructure projects.
  • Introduced S.2094, The Enhancing State Energy Security Planning and Emergency Preparedness Act, legislation that authorizes the Department of Energy (DOE) to provide financial assistance to states to develop or revise a State Energy Security Plan.
  • Introduced S.3677, The Enhancing Grid Security through Public-Private Partnerships Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at safeguarding the country’s energy grid from cyber-attacks.
  • Championed and led a group of bipartisan senators in introducing legislation to permanently authorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund, signed into law earlier this year by President Trump
  • Co-sponsored S.1685, The Launching Energy Advancement and Development through Innovations for Natural Gas Act, which would incentivize research and development of carbon capture technology for natural gas to ensure a reliable, affordable, and environmentally sound energy supply. The legislation was reported by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in July 2019.
