CRES Announces South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster as 2019 Clean Energy Champion

SEPTEMBER 24, 2019 — Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) formally announced South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster as a 2019 Clean Energy Champion. Governor McMaster will be recognized at the CRES Clean Energy Champion Awards Reception to be held during National Clean Energy Week (September 23-27, 2019).

“CRES is proud to announce Governor Henry McMaster as a 2019 Clean Energy Champion. Thanks to Governor McMaster’s stewardship, South Carolina recently passed a landmark law that supports solar power and unleashes the state’s renewable energy potential. We applaud Gov. McMaster for his work on behalf of the Palmetto State and look forward to working with him to continue promoting clean energy solutions for years to come,” said CRES Executive Director Heather Reams.

“South Carolina has been recognized for her natural beauty for centuries, and a key part of preserving that beauty for generations to come is using the cleanest energy sources possible,” said Governor Henry McMaster. “I’m proud to accept this award on behalf of Team South Carolina, and the thousands of individuals working to create a cleaner, brighter future for our state.”

CRES 2019 Clean Energy Champions are Republicans recognized for their steadfast leadership in advancing commonsense clean energy solutions that address our nation’s need for abundant, reliable energy while preserving our environment.

Gov. McMaster’s record in support of clean energy in South Carolina includes:

  • Championed and signed into law The Energy Freedom Act, House Bill 3659, a historic measure that expands access to solar in 2019.
  • Supported the development of a variety of solar energy projects throughout South Carolina, such as a $100 million investment to build a 74-megawatt solar panel farm near Edgefield Highway in Aiken County.
  • Defended South Carolina’s pristine coastline and coastal shoreline by requesting an exclusion from the National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program.
