SEPTEMBER 21, 2018 — Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) formally announced Maryland Governor Larry Hogan as a 2018 Clean Energy Champion. Governor Hogan will be recognized at the CRES Clean Energy Champion Awards Reception during National Clean Energy Week (September 24-28, 2018).

“CRES is proud to announce Governor Larry Hogan as a 2018 Clean Energy Champion. We applaud Governor Hogan for his leadership in securing commonsense, clean energy solutions that strengthen the Maryland economy, aid coastal communities and preserve the quality of the Old Line State’s natural environment for generations to come,” said CRES Managing Director Heather Reams.

“Since taking office, our administration has worked in a bipartisan manner to promote common sense clean energy policies and initiatives,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “We are committed to continuing our efforts to grow clean energy investment and jobs, leading the nation when it comes to protecting and preserving our environment, including our most precious asset, the Chesapeake Bay. Thank you for this honor.”

CRES 2018 Clean Energy Champions are Republicans recognized for their steadfast leadership in advancing commonsense clean energy solutions that address our nation’s need for abundant, reliable energy while preserving our environment.

Examples of Governor Larry Hogan’s clean energy record include:

  • Renewed Maryland’s commitment to the highly successful Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a cap-and-trade plan that has helped lower participating states’ carbon emissions by 40 percent in its first decade.
  • Put forward a budget that included key provisions to strengthen Maryland’s economy and upheld his commitment to voters that he would fight to preserve environmental quality and address climate change.
  • Fully funded efforts to clean up the Chesapeake Bay, and also established a grant program aimed at aiding coastal communities who are forced to endure the potentially catastrophic impacts of climate change and extreme weather.
