Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions Statement on the Hydropower Policy Modernization Act of 2017

November 8, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Managing Director Heather Reams issued the following statement on H.R. 3043, the Hydropower Policy Modernization Act of 2017.

“Hydropower plays a major role in strengthening our economy, creating jobs and delivering safe, reliable and affordable energy to families across America as the largest source of renewable energy in the United States. As the Hydropower Policy Modernization Act of 2017 is considered on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, Citizens For Responsible Energy Solutions encourages support for this legislation to expand the production of hydropower, streamline the regulatory permitting process and promote new infrastructure. We applaud Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers for her leadership to encourage modernization in our nation’s hydropower sector, and look forward to working with clean energy champions in Congress to see this bill become law,” said Reams.

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), recently named a 2017 CRES Clean Energy Champion, introduced H.R. 3043 in June. The bill would give the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission the flexibility and authority to extend permit periods, updates the definition of renewable energy to include hydropower and requires improvements to the licensing process that will shorten the permitting timeline.
