Statement: Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions Applauds DOE for New Funding to Advance Solar Technologies

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Managing Director Heather Reams released the following statement applauding today’s announcement by the U.S. Department of Energy of more than $100 million in funding to support America’s continued leadership in the advancement of solar energy technology.

“Solar energy producers and manufacturers represent one of the fastest growing, farthest reaching and most innovative economic sectors in America. CRES applauds Secretary Perry and the Department of Energy for investing in abundant clean energy sources that will improve energy affordability and choice for families across the country, as well as bolster American leadership in solar energy innovation and production. CRES remains committed to working with the administration to highlight the limitless potential of our domestic solar industry and technologies that have been proven to strengthen our economy, national security and environment.”

BACKGROUND

Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced it will fund approximately 70 projects under the Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) to advance solar photovoltaic (PV) and concentrating solar thermal power (CSP) technologies, and to facilitate the secure integration of those technologies into the U.S. electricity grid. Additionally, the funding will bolster efforts that prepare the workforce for the future of the solar industry.
