Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) today released its first round of congressional endorsements for the 2022 election cycle. The endorsements include five Republican members of the U.S. Senate and 12 Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Each of the 17 candidates endorsed by CRES have shown a commitment to strengthening America’s clean energy industry and reducing emissions by supporting free-market policies that unlock greater research, development, and deployment of the next generation of clean energy technologies.
“Now more than ever, it is evident that our country needs leaders committed to boosting domestic energy independence and addressing climate change. Each of the candidates endorsed by CRES have demonstrated just that—spearheading legislative efforts that protect both our wallets and our environment,” said Heather Reams, President of CRES. “Recent CRES polling found that Americans across party lines overwhelmingly support all-the-above policies championed by Republicans that reduce emissions, incentivize clean energy development, cut regulatory red tape, and hold foreign countries to their climate commitments. I am proud to issue these endorsements and applaud each of these Republican leaders for their steadfast work to promote American energy independence.”
The CRES-endorsed candidates have each contributed to the policy landscape in ways that advance clean energy and reduce emissions while prioritizing the needs of the country. Additionally, many candidates are members of the newly formed Conservative Climate Caucus (CCC). Examples of initiatives championed by many of the endorsees include: permitting improvements, strengthening America’s critical mineral supply chains, promoting domestic production of natural gas, clean hydrogen, advanced nuclear energy, natural climate solutions and conservation, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). Specific legislation championed by the CRES-endorsed candidates includes the Growing Climate Solutions Act, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the Energy Act of 2020, and the Steel Upgrading Partnerships and Emissions Reductions (SUPER) Act.
