Illinois’ clean energy workforce almost 100,000 strong, and growing

A new report out of Illinois shows that the clean energy industry is employing close to 100,000 Illinois workers. Energy efficiency was the biggest job creator, with the renewable energy sector also a major employer in the state. And the industry continues to grow, with 40 percent of clean energy businesses surveyed saying they plan to add workers this year.

“The survey confirmed for us how many businesses in diverse technology areas — including efficiency, renewables, electric vehicles and more — really see clean energy as an important part of their business,” Amy Francetic, CEO of Clean Energy Trust, told Blue Sky in an email. “More and more, people understand that how we use energy is as important as how we produce it, and the responses to the survey really reflect that.”
