CRES Statement on Bipartisan Omnibus Spending Bill

Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions issued the following statement on the bipartisan omnibus spending bill signed into law by President Biden today:

“Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) commends Congress for working together to pass record federal energy research and development funding in the omnibus appropriations legislation signed into law by President Biden today. This funding bill will accelerate U.S.-led innovation by promoting technologies to strengthen our electric grid, increase U.S. competitiveness, and reduce pollution all while creating and sustaining good-paying American jobs.

“In November, CRES wrote a letter requesting House and Senate appropriators provide robust funding for five key areas of the Energy and Water Development spending bill. Thanks to the bipartisan, bicameral  work of Chairwoman Diane Feinstein (D-CA), Ranking Member John Kennedy (R-LA), Chairwoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) and Ranking Member Mike Simpson (R-ID), all five of CRES’ key innovation priorities were nearly met or exceeded requested funding levels. This includes funding for Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-E); carbon capture, use and storage; carbon dioxide removal; energy storage; critical minerals; and, industrial emissions decarbonization.

“Last year, CRES applauded enactment of the clean energy and climate measures included in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act (IIJA). Today, we thank lawmakers for funding those programs at record levels. The boost in federal funding will help the U.S. meet a projected increase in energy needs and address future energy and environmental challenges.”
