CRES Statement on Appointment of Gov. Burgum as Secretary of Interior, Chair of National Energy Council

WASHINGTONCitizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) President Heather Reams today issued the following statement in strong support of President Trump’s appointment of Governor Doug Burgum to be the U.S. Department of Interior Secretary and chairman of the newly formed National Energy Council:

“North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum is a proven leader and values an all-of-the-above energy approach,” said CRES President Heather Reams. “In leading both the Department of the Interior and President Trump’s newly formed National Energy Council, I have no doubt Gov. Burgum will continue to prioritize policies to unleash American energy production and innovation. I am also excited for the creation of a National Energy Council to coordinate energy activities across the federal government. As chairman, he will have an elevated role in the National Security Council, which underscores the fundamental view that energy security is national security.”

“Republicans recognize current federal processes are too bureaucratic and oftentimes prevent new energy projects from ever breaking ground,” Reams continued. “With a broad mandate to improve permitting, production, generation, distribution and regulation – while prioritizing all forms of domestic energy production on federal and private lands – we have the opportunity to lessen our reliance on adversarial supply chains, reinvigorate our manufacturing sector, encourage investments and reduce global emissions.

“I look forward to working together to advance pragmatic, conservative energy policies to bolster American energy independence,” Reams concluded. “By taking advantage of all forms of American energy – including natural gas, hydrogen, wind, solar, geothermal, nuclear and hydro power – we can lower energy prices for American families and businesses while creating good-paying jobs.”
