CRES Statement on DOE $1.6B Loan Guarantee to Upgrade U.S. Transmission Lines

WASHINGTON – Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) released a statement applauding the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) recent $1.6 billion loan guarantee to upgrade transmission lines, strengthening the U.S. energy grid.

“We commend the Trump Administration for advancing America’s energy security and abundance with a $1.6 billion loan guarantee through the Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office to AEP Transmission, a subsidiary of American Electric Power (AEP),” said CRES President and CEO Heather Reams. “Energy demand in the U.S. is increasing, and DOE is responding by financing the upgrade of nearly 5,000 miles of transmission lines across Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma and West Virginia, ensuring more easily deployable and affordable energy across large parts of the Midwest. Additionally, this project will create more than 1,000 construction jobs, strengthening communities and stimulating local economies.”

Reams continued, “CRES applauds DOE and supports AEP in its efforts to upgrade and enhance grid reliability and capacity. We look forward to future department efforts to keep America at the forefront of energy innovation and security.”
