CRES National Poll: Republican Voters Continue to Support Clean Energy

WASHINGTON – Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) released a national survey showing Republicans, Republican-leaning Independents and true Independents’ support of clean energy, federal incentives to expand clean energy development, onshoring energy production and an all-of-the-above energy approach.

“Clean energy, its expansion and an all-of-the-above energy approach all polled very highly with right-leaning likely voters,” said Heather Reams, CRES President and CEO. “This is affirming news as we kick off National Clean Energy Week today, recognizing the benefits and contributions of clean energy in America.”

The CRES poll shows that 85 percent of Republicans and right-leaning and true Independents across the nation support an all-of-the-above energy approach.

Further, 72 percent say it is important for the United States to use clean energy to reduce pollution that leads to climate change, including 37 percent who say it is “very” important, and 68 percent support federal incentives to accelerate development and use of clean energy in the United States.

Despite the political and policy headwinds from Washington this year, clean energy such as solar power and wind are still viewed favorably at 77 and 64 percent, respectively. Natural gas enjoys the highest voter support at 87 percent

The CRES poll also shows that these likely voters are aligned with Republican federal policymakers prioritizing American energy independence, assisting our allies with securing energy sources and not funding adversarial nations at 91 percent

“Voters know that American, homegrown energy is good for the economy, good for our national security and good for the environment,” Reams continued. “Free markets and competition have long been core beliefs of the Republican Party, and the energy industry is no exception.”

Finally, the CRES poll clearly demonstrates that favorability increases when projects are within close proximity to these voters—meaning when people reap the benefits, they favor the innovation and expansion of clean energy projects.

“When communities experience the benefits of clean energy firsthand and are more informed about the economic lifelines that come from being close by, polling suggests that this increased exposure plays a vital role in shaping favorable views,” Reams added.
