WASHINGTON — Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) President Heather Reams applauded the introduction of Rep. John Curtis’ (R-Utah) Providing Reliable, Objective, Verifiable Emissions Intensity and Transparency (PROVE IT) Act.
“The United States has led the world in reducing emissions, and American producers and manufacturers are among the cleanest, most efficient in the world. The PROVE IT Act will ensure we have verifiable government data to prove America’s carbon advantage and an avenue to provide transparency on the emissions intensity of foreign competitors. As trading partners around world begin to implement climate trade policies, it is vital the United States have official data to defend our strategic interests,” said Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) President Heather Reams. “CRES extends its gratitude to Rep. Curtis (R-Utah) and Rep. Peters (D-Calif.) for their leadership in introducing this bipartisan legislation in the House.”
The PROVE IT Act directs the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to conduct a study to determine the emissions intensity of a number of U.S. products. It will also study the emission intensity of foreign production, including that from U.S. adversaries like China and Russia. It would ensure official U.S. government data in defending against foreign trade policies that could otherwise unfairly disadvantage U.S. exports.
Cosponsors for the bill include: Reps. David Valadao (R-Calif.), Salud Carbajal (D-Calif.), Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), Jim Costa (D-Calif.), Maria Salazar (R-Fla.), Eric Sorensen (D-Ill.), Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.), Troy Carter (D-La.), Seth Magaziner (D-R.I.), Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.), Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), Jack Bergman (R-Mich.), Ann McLane Kuster (D-N.H.), Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore.), Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.), Blake Moore (R-Utah) and Celeste Maloy (R-Utah).
