CRES Applauds Congressional GOP Incumbent Wins, Welcomes New Lawmakers

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) today congratulated the 20 re-elected Republican congressional candidates the group endorsed this cycle on their successful campaigns and welcomed newly-elected members to Washington. Earlier this fall, CRES endorsed four Republican incumbent U.S. Senators and 17 Republican incumbent members of the U.S. House of Representatives based on the lawmakers’ record of helping to expand the clean energy economy through policies that create new job opportunities across the country and enhance America’s advanced energy research and development base.

CRES played a role in several competitive races, spending a total of $1.2 million this cycle, which includes the group’s recent multi-state digital advertising campaign highlighting six Republican U.S. House members. On the Senate side, CRES supported independent efforts to elevate the ultimately successful campaigns of Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Thom Tillis (R-NC).

“Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions congratulates all Republican incumbents who will continue fighting for their constituents in the 117th Congress. We are especially delighted for the 20 re-elected officials who had been endorsed by CRES for their support of pro-environmental policies that enhance, rather than degrade America’s economy,” said CRES Executive Director Heather Reams. “The overwhelming success of candidates endorsed by CRES has proven that conservative leadership on clean energy and climate policy is warmly welcomed by voters from California to Maine, and everywhere in between.”

Reams continued, “CRES looks forward to continuing our work with these pragmatic, conservative lawmakers to help reduce carbon emissions, protect the environment, and unleash America’s entrepreneurial spirit and can-do optimism to build a clean energy future. We’re also thrilled to welcome the diverse and highly accomplished class of Congressional Republican freshmen who voters are sending to Washington to put Americans back to work and guarantee the long-term success of the economy.

“No doubt, COVID-19 has tested the American people during these last eight months. The pandemic has spared almost no segment of the economy, including clean energy, which prior to the pandemic was responsible for employing nearly 3.4 million Americans in communities across the U.S. A healthy economy is dependent on a strong energy sector, and we encourage all congressional incumbents and the new class to find common ground on legislative actions that will build on the known success of our wind, solar, hydropower, natural gas and other clean energy industries and spur job growth through deregulation, cutting taxes and incentivizing private sector growth.”
