Congressman Kinzinger Forwards “All of the Above” Clean Energy Approach

Illinois continues to optimize their energy sector with affordable alternatives under the steadfast guidance of Rep. Adam Kinzinger. As the top nuclear energy producer in 2017, Illinois was responsible for 12 percent of the Nation’s total nuclear energy generation for the year.

As a result, we have formally endorsed Rep. Adam Kinzinger’s re-election bid for U.S. House in Illinois’ 16th District because we believe that his commitment to Illinois’s clean energy industries represents the type of leadership we need from elected officials. Rep. Kinzinger has worked across the aisle to make clean energy options competitive in the open market.

The work Rep. Kinzinger undertakes in the name of renewables is exemplified with H.R. 6949, the CHP Support Act, which Rep Kinzinger introduced late last month. CHP refers to combined heat and power technologies, and the CHP Support Act would redesignate the DOE’s Clean Energy Application Centers as the CHP Technical Assistance Partnership Program (CHP TAP).

Under CHP TAP, $12 million in funding would be reauthorized for fiscal years 2018 through 2022 for the program. The funds will be used to promote the wider use of energy-efficient technologies that can turn wasted heat into thermal energy.

Energy independence is critically important to our national security, and in order to reach our goal, we must have diverse sources of energy and the proper infrastructures to deliver safe, reliable, and clean resources,” said Congressman Kinzinger.

The message is clear: Rep. Kinzinger is willing to fight for energy diversity to secure our economic future, and we commend him for his worthy goal. With Congressman Kinzinger’s support, Illinois is on track to make great strides in energy-efficiency during the coming years.
