CRES Support of the American Energy Innovation Act

Dear Leaders McConnell and Schumer:

On behalf of Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES), I am writing in strong support of S. 2657, the “American Energy Innovation Act”, and to urge the Senate to swiftly pass this bipartisan legislation.

The AEIA is one of the most consequential legislative initiatives for modernizing our nation’s energy policies in more than a decade. The AEIA is the cumulative result of 72 senators sponsoring and/or co-sponsoring more than 50 bills. Chairman Murkowski and Ranking Member Manchin continue to lead efforts to address concerns and priorities from their colleagues; as you know, earlier this month a key compromise was reached to address hydrofluorocarbons that previously held up the comprehensive energy bill. CRES is encouraged by this breakthrough, and hope Chairman Murkowski is given floor time to bring AEIA across the finish line.

Last week, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 4447, the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act, with bipartisan support.  The bill included dozens of bipartisan bills focusing on innovation and accelerating research and development into other clean energy technologies.  We believe that passage of these two bills now creates a great opportunity for Congress to pass comprehensive energy legislation for the first time in 13 years. We strongly urge the Senate to pass S. 2657 so bicameral negotiations can commence.

Sincerely,

Heather Reams

Executive Director
