Gillespie: “There is ample scientific evidence that contributes to climate change”

Last weekend Virginia GOP Senate candidate Ed Gillespie spoke spoke at the Virginia Senate Debate on the issue of climate change. When asked whether human activity was a contributing cause, he said: “I believe there is ample scientific evidence that contributes to climate change but I’m not entirely dismissive of those who have a different point of view.”

While Gillespie accepted the science behind global climate change, he also pointed out the importance of acting to protect Virginia against sea level rise, whatever differences there are in views as to what causes them: “Norfolk is dealing with rising sea levels but people can debate what contributes to that or not.”

And voters know that we don’t have to choose between the environment and the economy. Recent polling conducted by TargetPoint Consulting on behalf of Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions found that more than half of voters (54%) said that “efforts to reduce global climate change will create new American jobs.”
