Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) hosted its annual Clean Energy Champions Reception, recognizing the exemplary leadership of Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) and Reps. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) and Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) as the 2024 Clean Energy Champions.
Each year, CRES recognizes federal policymakers whose work showcases a commitment to commonsense clean energy policies that protect both our communities and economy. The 2024 Clean Energy Champions stand as leaders in advancing American-made energy solutions, with a focus on innovation, job creation and energy security.
The reception celebrated these lawmakers for their dedication to advancing clean energy solutions that balance economic growth with environmental responsibility. CRES President Heather Reams praised the honorees for their pragmatic, all-of-the-above energy approach, highlighting their efforts to reduce global emissions, strengthen the U.S. economy and promote innovative clean energy technologies.
Highlights from the Clean Energy Champions
Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) spoke passionately about Wyoming’s clean energy innovations, particularly advancements in nuclear energy and carbon capture technologies. Lummis emphasized the importance of domestic energy production and the role Wyoming’s resources play in the nation’s energy security.
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) emphasized his long-standing commitment to renewable energy, noting his instrumental role in advancing wind energy and biofuels infrastructure. As the “father” of the Wind Energy Incentives Act of 1993, Grassley reaffirmed his dedication to diversifying America’s energy portfolio to reduce emissions and support economic growth.
Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) highlighted his global leadership in clean energy discussions, mentioning his participation at COP28 and his advocacy for nuclear power and electric vehicle manufacturing in Georgia. Carter underscored the importance of conservative voices in shaping responsible energy policy on a global stage.
Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) focused on his work in the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where he has championed policies that promote energy innovation and grid security. Walberg’s leadership in expanding the U.S. energy grid’s capacity and integrating new technologies like AI demonstrates his commitment to future-proofing America’s energy infrastructure.
