This September, we recognize Chairman Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) as our CRESponsible Leader of the Month. Representing the Great Lakes state, Chairman Walberg champions an all-of-the-above approach that puts innovation and market certainty at the center stage of the energy conversation. As a Vice-Chair on the Conservative Climate Caucus, Walberg has been a strong and steady energy champion, supporting proposals that unleash our domestic energy supply and ensure grid reliability.
Chairman Walberg’s legislative efforts reflect his dedication to preserving affordability and enhancing America’s energy security. In the 118th Congress, he supported legislation aimed at bolstering U.S. energy independence and reducing prices for American businesses and families, including the Lower Energy Costs Act (H.R. 1), the Strategic Production Response (SPR) Act (H.R. 21), the REINS Act (H.R. 277) and the ADVANCE Act (H.R. 6544 ) to accelerate advanced nuclear technologies. In the 119th Congress, Walberg has continued to supportof further efforts like Chairman Westerman’s (R-Ark.) Fix Our Forests Act (H.R 471).
Additionally, Chairman Walberg coauthored an op-ed with Heather Reams, president and CEO of Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES), which highlights Michigan’s potential to be a leader in the nuclear power sector. The op-ed focuses on the need for an all-of-the-above energy approach to American energy dominance and the importance of market certainty. Also highlighted is Michigan’s Covert Township, which is on the verge of making history by being home to our nation’s first nuclear restart at Palisades. The plant ceased operations in May 2022, and a recent study from the University of Michigan found that its premature closure resulted in an adverse economic impact on the region of more than $250 million annually.
Wallberg continues to prove that advancing clean, affordable and reliable energy is not only possible, but essential. His commitment to balanced policy, economic opportunity, and energy innovation earns him this month’s distinction.
We are proud to name Chairman Walberg as our CRESponsible Leader of the Month for September.
