Celebrating the Passage of the ADVANCE Act

Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) is celebrating a monumental victory with the passage of the Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy (ADVANCE) Act! This landmark legislation, which passed the U.S. Senate with a bipartisan vote of 88-2, is now headed to the president’s desk to be signed into law. The ADVANCE Act promises to streamline the licensing, regulation, and deployment of nuclear energy technologies across the United States, marking a significant step forward in our clean energy journey.

CRES has been at the forefront of advocating for reforms to bolster nuclear energy in both the House and Senate, emphasizing the crucial role of nuclear energy in achieving a clean, affordable and reliable energy future by endorsing both the Atomic Energy Advancement Act from Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) and the ADVANCE Act, from Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.).

CRES Forum joined the Conservative Climate Foundation (CCF) at COP28 in Dubai, UAE, with a delegation of Republican senior staff and Members of the Conservative Climate Caucus (CCC), highlighting the importance of advanced nuclear technologies in reducing emissions and ensuring energy security. COP28 was dubbed the “nuclear COP” because, for the first time, the world came together to recognize the key role nuclear plays in a clean energy future.

In April, we traveled to Augusta, Georgia, with the Conservative Climate Foundation and CCC Chair Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) to visit the Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, the largest nuclear power plant and clean energy generator in the U.S. This visit underscored the practical benefits of nuclear power and how the generation of affordable and reliable clean energy benefits local communities.

Throughout the year, we published multiple op-eds advocating for advanced nuclear legislation and raising awareness about the importance of nuclear energy:

The passage of the ADVANCE Act is a transformative moment for the clean energy sector and a testament to the tireless efforts of CRES and our likeminded partners. As we celebrate this achievement, we remain committed to championing policies and initiatives that promote clean energy solutions, ensuring the United States leads in developing and deploying advanced nuclear technologies.
