CRESponsible Leader: Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer

Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore.) is October’s CRESponsible Leader and for good reason. Rep. DeRemer has been a champion of an all-of-the-above energy strategy, both in her home state of Oregon and on Capitol Hill.

Throughout her time in Congress, she has led and cosponsored several key pieces of legislation that underscore her commitment to conservation, including the Full Responsibility and Expedited Enforcement (FREE) Act in the House. This legislation would streamline the federal permitting process by establishing a “permit-by-rule” system—cutting red tape and accelerating the deployment of clean energy projects across the country.

Rep. Chavez-DeRemer’s support for clean, carbon-free nuclear energy is evident in her co-sponsorship of the ADVANCE Act, a newly enacted law designed to promote the development of cutting-edge nuclear technologies as part of our energy mix. And her support for H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, emphasizes her commitment to pragmatic policy solutions that ensure Americans have access to affordable, reliable and clean energy.

She also backed the Strategic Production Response (SPR) Act—aiming to depoliticize our nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve—as well as the Fix Our Forests Act, which will be essential for improving forest management and reducing wildfires.

At this year’s National Clean Energy Week (NCEW) Policymakers Symposium, Rep. Chavez-DeRemer gave remarks outlining her work on the FREE Act and the need for significant permitting reform in the U.S to advance clean energy projects. In addition, she co-sponsored a bipartisan resolution recognizing September 23-27, 2024, as National Clean Energy Week (NCEW), further showcasing her support for clean energy technologies.

Rep. Chavez-DeRemer also signed a letter, along with 17 other House Republicans, in support of clean energy tax credits, urging House leadership to protect key incentives from potential future cuts. The tax credits, vital for incentivizing innovation and growth in the clean energy sector, are already spurring investment and job creation around the nation.

When it comes to energy policy, Rep. Chavez-DeRemer has a proven track record of supporting initiatives that protect our environment by reducing global emissions while also driving clean energy innovation that bolsters our grid, keeps the U.S competitive and creates new, good-paying American jobs.
