CRES Congratulates Sen. Lisa Murkowski on Advancing to General Election

Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES)President Heather Reams issued the following statement regarding U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s (R-AK) advancement to the general election in Alaska:

“CRES was proud to endorse Sen. Lisa Murkowski because of her lengthy record of passing clean energy legislation that works for those in Alaska and across America. As the former leader of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy Natural Resources, Sen. Murkowski was essential in negotiating and passing the Energy Act of 2020—the nation’s first clean energy innovation package in more than a decade.

“In September 2018, Sen. Murkowski was named a CRES Clean Energy Champion for her work as a senior member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations, where she secured critical funding to increase grid research and development, harness Alaska’s hydropower resources, boost nuclear energy innovation and ensure advanced reactors can provide clean, safe, affordable and reliable power to meet national and global energy needs.”

In May 2022, CRES endorsed Sen. Murkowski for her support of commonsense climate legislation including the Hydrogen for Ports Act, the Hydrogen Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act, the Growing Climate Solutions Act, which passed the Senate this year by a vote of 92-8, and the Senate’s 2021 resolution designating National Clean Energy Week..

The Energy Act of 2020, championed by then-Chairwoman Murkowski, symbolized a monumental win for commonsense, all-of-the-above clean energy policies that continue to move America forward. The package put American innovation and ingenuity first by investing in critical research and development that will support wind, solar, hydropower and other forms of renewable energy, encourage U.S. exploration of critical minerals, promote safe and reliable nuclear energy and advance carbon management and removal.

Sen. Murkowski helped champion the most recent omnibus appropriations legislation, which extended tax credit deadlines for clean energy projects—such as solar and wind—that were delayed due to the pandemic as well as carbon capture and sequestration tax credits. Those tax credits have supported U.S. innovation, construction and development in the clean energy sector, generated homegrown American jobs and helped maintain our energy independence.
