Carlos Curbelo was elected to one of the most competitive seats in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014. Despite the fact that he has been in office less than three years, he has proven to be a fighter for his south Florida constituents who delivers on his promises. Nowhere is that more evident, than when it comes to his record of building bipartisan consensus in support of clean energy solutions.
Florida’s 26th Congressional District encompasses part of Miami-Dade Count as well as the Keys. It’s home to beaches, waterways and pristine natural habitats that attract visitors from across the world and sustain the local economy. For this area of the country, and Carlos Curbelo’s constituents, a clean environment is what sustains a healthy economy.
Curbelo understands that young Americans deeply care about preserving the environment and our nation’s energy sources. According to a national poll released by Citizens For Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES), 86 percent of Americans between the ages 18 and 29 were more likely to vote for a candidate who supports a clean energy plan.
A founding member of the House Republican Energy and Innovation Working Group, Rep. Curbelo is ushering in a new generation of GOP energy leadership. Just last month, Curbelo joined Reps. Elise Stefanik and Ryan Costello in recruiting fourteen other House Republicans to support a climate resolution encouraging American ingenuity to address climate change through economically viable clean energy solutions that spur innovation of renewable energy technology.
Rep. Curbelo also recognizes that energy and environmental issues transcend party lines. For instance, he worked with both Democratic and Republican members of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to ensure that H.R. 5303 the Water Resources Development Act of 2016 (WRDA) included funding to restore the Everglades National Park and protect PortMiami. Rep. Curbelo’s contributions to WRDA helped to foster job creation in the community and preserve the Everglades’ unique natural environment.
Carlos Curbelo is leading on clean energy solutions, not just through rhetoric, but more importantly, through action. By setting aside partisan politics and seeking to build consensus, Curbelo has demonstrated that he is willing to promote policies that strengthen the United States’ energy economy, protect the natural environment and help to achieve energy independence.
CRES applauds Curbelo for solidifying his role among a new generation of conservative leaders that has come to be defined by their environmental stewardship and commitment to pursuing innovative forms of renewable energy technology.
